How do I know that the holidays can be really lucrative for calligraphers?

From very personal experience.

In 2016, my first year in business, I decided to sell some holiday products.

And because my brand is Crooked Calligraphy, I put a twist on the usual Christmas cheer and sold these sweary balls 😂

Honestly, at first I was a little worried that they were -TOO- sweary, and that people would get offended.

And some people did clutch their pearls and gasp "How dare you?"... but dozens of other people cackled with delight and pulled out their wallets.

That year, I made almost $1000 just from holiday ornaments.

👩🏻‍🏫 So... WHY were these balls so successful?

1️⃣ First, the DETAILS:

• PRICE: I sold each ornament for $12
• EXPENSES: About $1.50 for each ornament, plus a cardboard box + sticker for packaging
• TOTAL NUMBER SOLD: 84
• TOTAL SALES: $1,008
• TOTAL PROFIT: $882

2️⃣ Now, here are the reasons I think people were drawn to them:

1. They're funny as shit! 😂 I teach all of my business students to find a way to make their products stand out - that could be by choosing luxurious materials, using colorful language, or customizing using calligraphy.
2. They're unique - I lettered on ornaments while at holiday markets and shared videos of me creating them on my Instagram. This showed potential customers that these were truly one-of-a-kind.
3. I offered to customize the ornaments with a name on the back. That way, customers weren't just buying a bauble... they were buying a valuable KEEPSAKE.
